We begin the year all excited, ready to crush our health and fitness goals and finally feel and look great. But somewhere along the way work, uni or our personal commitments get the best of us and in a few months, we feel like we’ve accomplished nothing. Don’t worry we’ve all been there. The good news is that spring is finally here and there’s no better time to refuel your New Year’s resolutions for a healthier life. The days are longer, it’s warmer outside and nature is in full bloom.
A Fresh Start
There’s just something about spring. As nature starts a new life you also feel more motivated to begin a new project. You’re excited and full of energy. The days are also getting longer and you feel like you have more time to get things done. A study done by Katherine Milkman in 2014 showed that people are more likely to get active and work towards their goals “after days that mark the start of a new time period and represent new beginnings”. So make the most of this feeling and put that extra energy and motivation towards reaching your goals.
Still enough time to be in shape for summer
Have you noticed that most resolutions that relate to our body’s appearance have the deadline “Summer”? I guess there’s nothing more motivating than picturing yourself lying on the beach, the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair and everyone commenting on how great you look.
But before we get into all of that we should mention that “in shape” can mean many things. It can relate to outward appearance or lean more towards performance. Also, your starting point is very important. Your goals need to be realistic so that you don’t overestimate yourself. Otherwise, you might feel like you’re failing if you’re not quite there yet by July even though you’ve made great progress. Additionally, our bodies respond differently and for some, it may take longer to reach their ideal shape. And remember, whatever your health and fitness goals are, consistency and motivation are key. Don’t wait until the last three weeks before summer to start exercising and expect a six pack by its beginning.
Now, having all of that in mind, there are roughly three more months before summer’s here. You might think that there isn’t enough time to get absolutely shredded. And while you may be right, your body can change quite a bit in three months, especially if you’re a beginner. If you’re not used to exercising on a regular basis or thinking about what and how much you eat your body will be shocked the minute you start doing it. This means that you’ll lose fat faster and more easily than someone who has been training for longer.
Additionally, with the weather being so great, you have even fewer excuses not to exercise. If you get bored at the gym or if it’s too crowded for you, there’s nothing better than going running in the park. Not only will you engage your whole body but you will also enjoy the fresh air. Being surrounded by nature will additionally improve your mood and have a de-stressing effect.
Eating the right stuff
Most of us instinctively think that the key to a healthy life and fit body mainly exercises. We get motivated and work out tirelessly at the gym, however, after several months we still don’t see the results we expected. Something which we don’t give enough credit to that actually paves the way to a better life is our diet. Shawn M. Talbott, a nutritional biochemist, says that “as a rule of thumb, weight loss is generally 75 per cent diet and 25 per cent exercise”.
Diet doesn’t mean just eating less. It’s actually more about eating the right stuff at the right time. A good diet, which you can maintain on a daily basis, needs to be nutritionally complete and must include a palette of different vitamins and minerals. All of that can be very intimidating if you’re not an experienced cook or don’t have the luxury of time and money to choose and prepare the best recipes.
This is actually something we can help you out with. Saturo offers nutritionally complete drinks that fill you up with all the necessary nutrients and vitamins. It is also very easy to include in your diet and depending on which product you choose there is either no or little preparation involved. Most people think that the idea is to replace all of your meals with SATURO and even though that’s possible most of us don’t want to do it for various reasons. That’s no problem! You can use our drinks and powders to replace a single meal or more, or as a quick snack. You can read more on how to incorporate SATURO in your diet and its benefits in our previous blogs.
